Powder Day!

Anyone else as excited as I am to go skiing? Who doesn’t love getting to the ski hill to find there was a huge dump of snow overnight and it’s still puking the white stuff?!?!? And even better…you’re the first ones up the chair and the first ones down! SO MUCH FUN. Can you feel the excitement in these skiers? POW!

Motorcycle Dreaming

A great day of riding the Columbia Icefields Parkway inspired this bright, happy painting! I love doing commissions! I love the story behind the image, the collaborating, of course the painting and then the delivery! When friends asked me to do a painting for them, I was excited to know the story behind their photo. They wanted something that held memories of days spent riding their motorcycle thru the mountains. And this was it – “I just had to stop and get a photo”, it is a beautiful shot! The beauty of the lake and and the contrast of the snow on the mountains made for a beautiful painting! Enjoy! Moraine Lake And The Canoes!

This scene of the iconic Moraine Lake with the canoes on the dock couldn’t be more Canadian! People travel from all over the world to see this view! And, this year since there was no travelling internationally (it wasn’t too busy), we were able to drive up the road and spend the day! We arrived at the lake very early on a morning in mid July. It was dreary, cloudy and cold, but it was still so beautiful! The bright colours of the lake and the boats made for a spectacular scene!

You Could Never Forget This View!

One of our favourite hikes this summer was Pedley Pass. The view is spectacular as you walk along the ridge – one side is looking down on the Kootenay River Valley and the other side is the Columbia Valley. The day we went, the wildflowers were out in all their glory! These pretty little Forget-Me-Nots were popping up all over the mountain top! How cool are the centres of each little flower! Yellow, Pink, White…Mother Nature got busy with her paint brush too!

Wildflowers

Wildflowers in the mountains have to be one of the most amazing and beautiful things around. There are so many different ones. They all have different colours, petals, stamens, sizes, shapes, leaves – the list goes on and on! These wildflowers are all from early in the spring, not too long after the snow has melted and the the sight of colour makes our souls happy again! Pink Wild Roses, White Western Anenomes, Purple Hare Bells & Yellow Blanket Flowers

Smokey Sunsets

The best time to go up to Lake Lillian is just as the sun is going down and the crowds have gone home. Paddle on the lake or just sit on the shore listening to the loons call out to each other. There were some pretty amazing sunsets in the smokey sky’s during the forest fire summers a few years back.

Out Of The Deep Dark Woods…

I love spotting the bears that venture out of the dark woods for some delicious grass and dandelions. Bears are so much fun to watch and they’re fun to paint too!

Don’t Look Down? Definitely Look Down!

The Johnson Trails near Lake Lillian, BC are some of the very best mountain biking trails in the Columbia Valley. It’s a ton of fun, but it’s tough, and the reward is this amazing view of the hoodoos and the Toby Creek below. It is so pretty and definitely one of my very favorite places!

Perogies, Smokies And Hot Chocolate Please!

There is a special little gem up at the very top of Panorama Ski Hill. It’s a place to warm up, have a rest, fuel up and get ready to hit the slopes again! Or if you’re really lucky, on a bluebird day you can sit out on the deck and enjoy a drink and the unbelievable view! If you’ve been up there, you just know how really special it is!
