A+ Homework

I loved doing this homework assignment from Mastrius Mentor Heather Pant! Assignment was…Cool tree. Not green. Colourful background. Rocky Ground. How did I do?

Winter Is Coming!

Last Fall we were walking the dogs down by the lake and a thin layer of ice was starting to form on the surface. The Canada Geese were landing on the water, then taking off and heading south. The clouds were hanging low and grey over the mountains. The lake was calm and there was crisp chill in the air. You could just feel that winter was around the corner.

I Love Your Laches, Chester!

Chester Lake in Kananaskis is an amazing treasure trove of larch trees. The larches turn these amazing shades of yellow and orange in the fall, when the day light hours start to diminish. Larch trees in the mountains are found at a higher elevation and hiking up is usually the only way to see them in all their glory! The golden colors of the trees contrasting off of the the blue green of the lake was insanely beautiful!

Lookout Bow River Valley!

The Bow Valley Parkway is the old highway between Banff and Lake Louise. A long stretch of it was closed to vehicles last summer and turned into a super cool biking pathway. We enjoyed riding on it a few times – so much fun having the whole road to ourselves! And the views weren’t too bad either! 🤩 This lookout over the Bow River was spectacular!

Grassi Green

Grassi Lakes is the prettiest little hike! It isn’t too hard and there are a couple of really beautiful lakes at the top. The jewel green lakes are surrounded by cliff walls with cool wavy rock formations from fossil reefs. Hikers and rock climbers love this little gem!

Aloha Hawaii!

I have been keeping this painting under wraps for such a long time!!! The talks for this (wedding gift) commission started over 2 years ago right before Covid hit. And then everything was cancelled – including weddings…. So finally after things opened up a bit, my client’s nephew and new wife were married and had a dream honeymoon in Hawaii! I hope this painting will always be a special memory of their time together there! There is a Hawaiian phrase that means – May our love live forever, and it is what I named the painting ~ E Hoomau Maua Kealoha
*I am always wanting to try something new, and palm trees and Hawaiian beaches definitely hit the mark! I may have even went on a little research trip 😉☀️🏝 I had a lot of fun doing all the foliage for this painting. So many different colors, textures, shapes and sizes of the plants in Hawaii. I loved meeting and working with my clients on this painting so much!

She’s A Beauty

Homework for our Mastrius mentoring group with (the amazingly talented) Heather Pant this month was paint Moraine Lake! Um, ok – twist my rubber arm! I love Moraine Lake, it is one of the most iconic places in Canada. Who’s climbed up to the top of the rock pile for this photo? Can’t wait to get back up there to paint this summer!

Banff Train Station

A new train painting! And you all know how much I love trains! I have stalked the train station in Banff to get the perfect photo for years now. Every time I’m there – the train isn’t there (usually), is already going through (I’m stuck sitting at the road crossing) or the back end of the train is in the far distance (rounding the bend). I wanted the perfect photo so I could paint it but I don’t think it will ever happen! Well the beauty of art is putting ideas together and making stuff up right?!?! This is my painting of the very ELUSIVE train at the Train Station in Banff National Park. Maybe one day I will actually get to see it!

The Park

Last fall we celebrated my mom’s 70th birthday in Banff! We had fantastic family weekend, eating, having a few drinks, eating some more, more drinking, and of course more eating! There are so many great restaurants in that little town! One of my favourite things about staying in Banff is the way it feels in the morning – it’s so quiet and still. I couldn’t help but take some gorgeous photos of an almost deserted Banff Ave. And I definitely couldn’t help but paint on of my fave restaurants.
