Emergency Flash Benefit Sale By Square Foot Show

This week the Square Foot Show organized a flash sale to benefit Ukraine. They asked their artists to donate one 12″x12″ painting toward the sale. 130 artists stepped up and donated 130 paintings! The paintings were all sold for $300 with ALL proceeds going to support World Vision working at the borders of Ukraine. In just 2 days everyone stepped up and made it happen!

More than 800,000 people have fled Ukraine and their homes this week. World Vision is helping refugees on Ukraine’s border countries with providing personal hygiene kits, psychological first aid and child-friendly aid in Romania and mobilizing efforts in the countries of Georgia and Moldova.

In the first 20 minutes of the show, $50,000 was raised! So amazing! Thankful to have been a part of this fundraiser with so many amazing people!

Sunflowers For Ukraine

Feeling totally heartbroken about what is happening in the Ukraine – most likely all of you are too….This morning I woke up to see photos of Ukrainian men (boys) who are the same age as my son being given guns to fight in the streets. I saw a video of a sweet little boy driving in a car who could barely get his words out, trying to explain that they had to leave their father behind so he could help the soldiers. I’ve watched videos of the noblest of leaders, a man who will not leave his people behind – any country in the world would be lucky to have him. I’ve seen photos of Ukrainian civilians making thousands of molotov cocktails, getting ready for the fight of their lives. I’ve watched and I’ve seen and I’m feeling helpless. How is this happening?

Sunflowers are the National flower of Ukraine. Images of sunflowers have been flooding social media this week in global solidarity and support of Ukraine. This is my way of doing something, I will be selling my sunflower painting and all the money will go to the Ukrainian Humanitarian Crisis Appeal through the Red Cross. On the heels of other artists doing the same, I am auctioning off this painting. The starting bid is $400.

***Thank you for everyone’s bids and support. Angie Francis is the new owner of this painting. Thank you so very much for the generous bid and donation of $500 to the Red Cross.

Lake Louise Boathouse

A pretty little boathouse at Lake Louise on a grey and cloudy day…What started out as a hike up Saddleback Mountain to see some each trees turned into a…let’s go up to the top that mountain over there and see what we can see! And did we ever find a view! When we made it to the bottom we took a celebratory photo of Fairview Mountain. Then the boathouse and canoes caught my eye – the lighting that day was moody and gave the lake a super cool low key atmosphere.

Everyone Loves Trains – Especially Little Kids

This painting was created for a very special mom as a Christmas present from her husband. These sweet little people love going to Edworthy Park in Calgary to watch the trains go by and I am so honored to have been a part of creating this special family memory!

Big Aberta Sky

This is a big one! A great big one! And what a fun project it was!! I know you’ve all heard it before but I seriously love commissions…meeting clients, working together on a plan, bringing it all together, and of course the finished painting. This view is of the Elbow River (and beyond) just on the edge of Calgary is spectacular! And it’s really meaningful to my clients because it is the view from their favorite hole at Pinebrook Golf Course. They are in the process of building a new home and this piece has a special spot just waiting for it! I can’t wait to see this great big beauty hung up in its new home!

Trains and Graffiti

I am obsessed with graffiti and trains!! I spent a lot of last summer stalking train yards and railways – waiting and waiting for trains! I love the bright vibrant colours of the graffiti on the old railcars. Pretty sure these railcars are in some kind of graveyard – they are so rusted out and dilapidated that I think they’d crumble to dust if they were moved! and the contrast of the big bold graffiti makes for a pretty cool image!

Lest We Forget

Last Summer I was sitting with my Grandpa in his backyard and he said ‘You should paint my poppies! They’re really nice!’ My Grandpa’s old army friend had given him the poppies years ago and they are still thriving! They are so pretty and have so much meaning. I told him I would paint them for him for Remembrance Day. Always Remember & Never Forget.
