V Formation

Every morning, Canadian Geese fly over our house and every evening they fly back over. They spend their days eating in the farmer’s fields and their nights sleeping in the wetlands. As all the light from the day fades away, you can hear the flocks coming. I love the sight of the huge V silhouetted up in the sky.

Good Old Instincts and Plain Good Looks

This big beautiful grizzly bear was spotted near Radium, BC. Every spring, for as long as I can remember, a mama bear has brought her cubs to eat fresh grass and dandelions along the highway. They are an easy family to recognize because of their gorgeous colouring and blond highlights in their fur. Over the years, the female cubs have become the mamas and they in turn bring their cubs to the same place their mother’s had brought them. It’s always exciting to see in the spring how big the cubs have grown or if the mama pushed them out on their own and wether or not she has new cubs. Sometimes it’s sad because a trio of cubs have become a duo over the winter. The instinctual knowledge and wisdom that is passed down through the generations is simply amazing!

A Piece of Real Canadiana

Can’t you feel it? It’s a HOT summer afternoon. You’re on the patio, having a cold beer at The Station Pub. Just looking out at the lake. You hear it before you see it, the rumbling, and then the blaring of the big old horn. The train rolls on through, around the next bend and out of sight.

A Canadian Memory

Last year I met a super nice family at the Spruce Meadows Christmas Market from Germany. She recently contacted me about commissioning a painting for her husband for Father’s Day. It turns out that they are also moving back to Germany and wanted to have a reminder of their time spent in Canada. I loved working together and making a plan for the painting. I had so much fun painting it – we both think it turned out perfectly. Happy Father’s Day and safe travels!

Pynelogs Art Gallery Summer Show

Come see my newest paintings at the Pynelogs Art Gallery and Cultural Centre in Invermere, BC. from July 21 – August 15, 2020. I hope you enjoy this new series of paintings showcasing the beautiful Columbia Valley.

Early last summer, I was was leaving the Fairmont Hot Springs pool and as I drove out over the hill this is what I was staring at! It’s hard to believe it was real. A lot of people were stopped on the road taking photos – I’m not actually sure how you couldn’t stop to just stare at the view.  The sunset on the Columbia River Wetlands overlooking the stables was incredible and I knew I had to paint it! Stay tuned for more paintings from this show!

Hiking Anyone?

Who’s been to Upper Kananaskis Lake? I’m dying to get up there now that I have finished this painting! Seriously…let me know if you want to go hiking! This new commission piece is for a client who has some very special memories spent camping and hiking at the lake with her family. She had the most spectacular photos to work with – the reflection of the mountains on the lake were perfect. A challenge to paint and get just right, but totally worth it! Each stage of creating a painting together is awesome – I love meeting new people, getting to know them, making a plan together, the actual painting and then the big reveal! So, of course – commission delivery days are the best days of all! *I asked my client to name this one as I didn’t have a personal connection to the lake. She decided to call it Upper Kananaskis Lake Twinning – she has twins and it’s so fitting to the painting – I love it!

A Successful Social Distancing Drop Off!

I am super excited to be able to share this painting of Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park. A commission piece for my client’s son’s birthday! One of the best things about commission paintings are the people you get to meet, and this family was no exception. I had a great time getting to know them and doing this special painting. We had a successful social distancing drop off from the front door! And seriously…how cool does this painting look on that black wall! I love it – I want a black wall now!

Downtown is Quiet!

Oh, what I wouldn’t give to go for a night time skate at Olympic Plaza right now. Or really doing anything, anywhere for that matter! I have held off sharing this painting since February because it was supposed to go in an art exhibit called Calgary Story at the Downtown Calgary Library in May. Well, thanks to Co-vid 19 and self isolating that won’t be happening. Of course it makes me a little sad but now I get to share this painting finally! I love the calmness of the night time lighting and my three little skaters in this painting. I really enjoyed trying something new and painting architecture over a natural landscape. I’m hoping to try some more buildings in the near future! Take care!

Little Local Lady!

Last summer we went for a farm to table dinner at a local farm and garden – it was a gorgeous night with blue skies, apple trees, veggie gardens and mountains as the backdrop. Not bad at all! After the amazing dinner (seriously amazing) we were taken on a tour of the farm. Of course I had a great time taking lots of photos. We passed by this little lady and she was more than happy to pose for me! I couldn’t wait to paint her and I love how she turned out! Here’s to dreaming of hot summer nights, good food and bottles of cold white wine…

Summer Dreaming

Dreaming of summertime, hiking in alpine meadows, and wildflowers…Check out my little wildflower series. Everytime we hike up a mountain, walk down a pathway, bike on a trail, I am on the lookout for flowers. Their colours, shapes, sizes are all so different and I want to paint them all! There are some so strange and Dr. Seuss looking that no one would ever believe they actually exist. Hope to be back out hiking and hunting for more flowers this summer!
