Trains and Graffiti

I am obsessed with graffiti and trains!! I spent a lot of last summer stalking train yards and railways – waiting and waiting for trains! I love the bright vibrant colours of the graffiti on the old railcars. Pretty sure these railcars are in some kind of graveyard – they are so rusted out and dilapidated that I think they’d crumble to dust if they were moved! and the contrast of the big bold graffiti makes for a pretty cool image!

Lest We Forget

Last Summer I was sitting with my Grandpa in his backyard and he said ‘You should paint my poppies! They’re really nice!’ My Grandpa’s old army friend had given him the poppies years ago and they are still thriving! They are so pretty and have so much meaning. I told him I would paint them for him for Remembrance Day. Always Remember & Never Forget.

Shipping Artwork!

Finally time to share this new commission piece! Every summer my clients camp at the gorgeous little lake in Oliver, BC. What a view from the beach! And now they get to see it every day from home! The photo they had was a little dark and I was asked to make the painting brighter and not gloomy. This is why commissions are great, you can make the painting whatever you want!  My clients live far away and the painting needed to be shipped. We pack it up really well and it arrived safe and sound!

Fireweed Forever

Kootenay National Park had the most amazing fireweed I’ve ever seen this past summer! And it looked even more dramatic against the backdrop of old burnt out trees from the wildfires a few years ago. My son Charlie and I had a great day hiking and taking lots of pretty photos!

The Windermere Bald Eagles

The Shadybrook Bald Eagles just hanging out at the cold stream beach in Windermere. Did you know that Bald Eagles are just a little shady and love to steal an easy meal from other birds and fishermen?

Waterfall Hikes

When you pass through the park gates in Radium Hotsprings there is a little parking lot on the side of the road with a set of stairs. They lead to a beautiful little hike down to the bottom of Sinclair Canyon and this amazing waterfall. You can almost feel the mist and smell the cedat trees!

Radium Hotsprings Unofficial/Official Mascot?

Radium’s resident Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep are always somewhere around town. On the main strip, down by the park, up on the hills or just hanging out on the highway – you never need to look too far! These guys were spotted heading into Kootenay National Park just before the tunnel.

The Hoodoos

Along the Johnson – is another super beautiful biking and hiking trail in the Columbia Valley. This view is looking out across the hoodoos and down on the Toby Creek. Aren’t the hoodoos totally amazing?!?! They look like a little village down there!

This place is what dreams are made of!

When I was young, my dad used to take me snowmobiling on the forestry roads in the valley’s backcountry. There was one place we would go to that always had the most spectacular colours reflecting off of the snow – purples and pinks and blues. Of course being a kid – I had no idea where it was, I just remembered the amazing colours! I have rediscovered that special spot and it’s still a dream of purples, pinks and blues, even in the summer.

Three Little Trouble Makers

One Morining a few years ago, we were leaving swimming lessons at Fairmont Hot Springs and we saw this commotion! There were three little trouble makers up a tree and one very annoyed mama bear at the bottom. She stood at the base of the tree and tried to coax them down, and eventually she gave up. She just sat down with her back against the tree, and waited for them to come down. It was on of the coolest and funniest bear sightings ever!
